Beetle elytron plate (BEP) is a biomimetic sandwich structure inspired by the internal architecture of beetle elytra and characterisedby trabeculae in core. This type has been shown to possess superior mechanical properties conventional plates; however, there are no studies that evaluate its structural bending resistance. paper develops an analytical method calculate key component resistance BEPs: elastic local buckling load compression skin. It assumes skin BEPs simply supported trabecular After eliminating edges outside trabeculae, two zones, depending on ratio (η) radius distance between adjacent identified. At low η values (η ≤0.25), occurs space surrounded four trabeculae. Beyond critical value (η>0.25), enclosed individual trabecula. Guided finite element simulation results, this identifies new suite deformation shape functions derives for according principle minimal total potential energy. Afterwards, convenient quadratic polynomial regression equation proposed modify coefficient equivalent grid honeycomb plates, with maximum difference calculation results being about 7%.
